The Burn Your Mortgage Podcast: How a Millennial Defied the Odds and Got Financial Literacy into Ontario High Schools with Prakash Amarasooriya

Prakash Amarasooriya is the 20 something year old who led the charge to revamp the grade 10 career studies course in Ontario to incorporate financial literacy. Prakash and his colleagues at the Toronto Youth Council launched an online petition in the fall 2016 that got picked up by the mainstream media. Prakash met with then Minister of Education Mitzie Hunter, and soon after, plans were made to roll out a pilot project at 28 high schools, laying the groundwork for financial literacy to become part of the curriculum.

In my interview with Prakash, we discuss why financial literacy is so important to him, how he managed to succeed where so many others had failed by getting financial literacy included in the education system in Ontario, and how he would like to see financial literacy further integrated into our school system.
